Prime Publishing is seeking an Online Managing Editor to join our crafts group in the Northbrook, IL office. Excellent content development and management, social media and editing skills, with the ability to multitask, will enable the Online Managing Editor for our e-mail newsletters and web sites to succeed. Our food and craft web sites generate over 12 million page views weekly and have more than 3.1 million e-mail subscribers. The highly motivated individual will manage content flow, weekly analysis, industry relations and work closely with a team of 9 dedicated full-time on-line craft editors who work in our Northbrook, IL office along with hundreds of freelance editors nationwide.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage the daily operations for 12 craft properties, creating content plans, budgets, social media strategy, strategic plans and supervision of 9 full-time editors daily content output.

• Manage the content and creation of 8 daily newsletters and 4 weekly newsletters includingQuick & Crafty (favecrafts.com), Knit Picky Patterns (allfreeknitting.com) and Hooked on Crochet (allfreecrochet.com). Full list can be found at www.primecp.com

• Execute the overall Online Editorial Calendar, including freelance contributions

• Maintain content and style standards and editorial quality

• Handle online content workflow, from assigning, to editing, to posting online, to placing in newsletters with a team of dedicated on-line editors

• Oversee creation of paid and free eBooks for clients and web properties.

• Work with ecommerce Director (cutratecrafts.com) to stimulate sales and web property cross promotions.

Position Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree (or higher) required, with preference for a journalism major or emphasis

• At least 5 years reporting/editing experience, including at least 2 years in management, with work at an on-line publication or on-line magazine a plus

• Ability to work well with a team in a fast-paced environment

• Strong crafting knowledge from personal or professional experiences a must

• Knowledge of AP style, InDesign, Photoshop, and online content management systems and digital tools

• Strong computer skills a must

We are growing fast and adding to our sales team.  You will be responsible for working with advertisers who want to reach our various cooking and crafting sites/communities. Each 'community' is comprised of a web site (banners, mobile), e-mail newsletters (space ads and stand-alone solo e-mails) and social media endeavors (Sponsorships of our blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc.).

This is a new expansion position.  Ideal candidate will have on-line media sales experience. Entry level candidates and those with at least 2 years minimum industry experience are encouraged to apply.

Position: Editorial Intern (Paid)

Job Description:

Through its network of niche content Web sites, Prime Publishing enables consumers to live fuller lives every day.  The company creates women's lifestyle content in the cooking and crafting niches. 
 
We are seeking an Editorial Intern for our content sites in the area of crafting (general, knitting, beading, quilting, crochet, sewing, jewelry) and recipes (desserts, general recipes, healthy recipes) and related niche content targeted primarily to women.
 

The internship program is set up as a 13 week learning experience.  We understand that interns may wish to work shorter or longer than 13 weeks and this is possible. Our goal is to teach you a new skill each week. Should there be mutual interest, we will share with you our training schedule and learning experience during an in-person interview which details learning goals by week. Some of these goals include:

  • CMS – we have developed a proprietary CMS, content management system.  Our first week is focused on teaching you this system.
  • On-Line Writing – the second week we teach you the basics about how to use analytical tools to write articles so that they can be well indexed on-line and found by people using search engines.
  • Public Relations – we engage in an active series of campaigns and our training covers sources of publicity, writing a press release and tracking results.
  • eBook creation – we offer our consumers at least two new free eBooks each month.  These are downloadable PDF format books, typically 25 – 150 pages, and often themed around holiday’s such as Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, etc. Each intern will create at least one eBook from start to finish.

 Qualifications:

  • College student, preferably with English or journalism concentration or equivalent experience.
  • Basic understanding of HTML and online media.
  • Strong writing, editing, research, communication, and management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines effectively and multitask.

The Director develops and executes strategic visions, tactics, monitors work and evaluates results to ensure goals are met and are in line with the needs and mission of the overall site/community. On a day-to-day basis, the Director regularly communicates and maintains relationships with bloggers, editors, designers, staff, etc.

This is a new position, to reflect the growing importance of connecting with our readers, site visitors and prospects in socially-oriented online properties beyond our own websites and newsletters.

Position: Editor

Job Description:

We are seeking Editors who will write and aggregate content for our web sites, e-mail newsletters, blogging and social media.  We have content sites in the area of cooking and crafting and related niche content targeted primarily to women. Knowledge of crafting is a plus for craft team positions. Knowledge of cooking is a plus for food team positions.

 
The Editor will be responsible for developing new story ideas, mentoring freelance writers, social media, video and collaborating with management.  As well the editorial team works with the design, tech, and marketing teams to maintain, update, and enhance the sites and e-mail newsletters. He or she will regularly contribute to ongoing content updates and new site-related projects, from concept through completion, and provide input on the user experience. Production of our e-mail newsletters is a focus along with social media. The prospective candidate needs to be a creative thinker with strong writing and editing skills, be able to work on multiple projects at once, and meet strict deadlines.
 
Daily site tasks include:

  • Regularly embodying the voice and tone of our sites and newsletters. 
  • Creating, organizing, and editing new content, and making appropriate updates to existing content. 
  • Contributing to the writing and editing of the e-newsletters, web sites, social media and blogs. 
  • Interfacing with Customer Service to provide solutions and proper responses to subscribers who contact them with questions or issues. 
  • Supporting Management in cross-functional projects with Marketing, Ad Sales, and Tech teams, as well as company-wide initiatives.
