Prime Publishing Hosts Security Blankets Charity Drive

From November 16 – December 17, 2018, Prime Publishing hosted a Security Blankets Charity Drive through its website AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns.com. Prime partnered with Project Linus, an organization that donates handmade blankets to sick and traumatized children, while Lorna’s Laces, a Chicago-based yarn company, sponsored the drive. Prime Publishing received 111 handmade blankets from nearly every state in the Union, thanks to AFCAP’s generous and talented readers.

“This charity drive was my first at Prime,” said Jaji Hammer, the drive’s organizer and AFCAP’s newest editor. “I didn’t know quite what to expect, given blankets can take a while to make, whether you’re crocheting, knitting, or sewing. But the blankets just poured in! I’m so beyond grateful for Prime’s community of crafters!”

Hammer worked closely with one of Project Linus’ local chapter coordinator’s, Judi Goldman, who has run the North Chicago, IL chapter for decades, and has facilitated disbursement of many of the over 170,000 blanket donations it has received.

“Last week, Jaji Hammer brought 111 of the most beautiful handmade blankets to my home,” said Goldman. “Each one is beautifully handmade with lively colors and cozy patterns. One hundred and eleven children will be comforted by these blankets, as well as their family, friends, and medical staff.”

And, as an added bonus for the crafters who donated blankets, each was entered to win a beautiful yarn bundle giveaway from Lorna’s Laces worth $50.

Prime Publishing and Project Linus plan to collaborate annually on this charitable endeavor, and strive to collect more and more blankets each year. Goldman said, “We are so grateful to Prime Publishing, their staff, and all of the crafters who donated their time, talent, and love to make blankets for the children Project Linus serves.”
