Sixty-Three Percent of Surveyed Slow Cooker Fans Use Their Slow Cookers All Year Long

Northbrook, IL – In a recent survey conducted by AllFreeSlowCookerRecipes.com, we found that 63.7 percent of readers surveyed said they use their slow cooker all year long, not just during one particular season. Thirty-four percent said they used their slow cookers most during the winter, and about 20 percent said they use their slow cookers most during the fall season. The survey was taken by subscribers of The Slow Cooker Chronicle and was conducted for two weeks.

The survey included questions on how readers engage with our newsletters, and also asked readers about their slow cooking habits. As we head into November, it was interesting to find that of all the major holidays, our readers use their slow cookers most for Thanksgiving, with Christmas coming in a close second. Throughout the year, 12 percent of those surveyed use their slow cookers three to four times a week, and 21 percent use their slow cookers twice a week. It should be no surprise that over 57 percent of those surveyed consider themselves to be intermediate-level cooks!

When we asked readers which ingredient, from a list of 13, was their favorite to incorporate in their cooking, 89 percent of those surveyed chose chicken. That said, when we asked readers what was the quirkiest way they’ve ever cooked with their slow cookers, they had some wild slow cooker uses, including using their slow cookers to make tie dye, soap, to melt wax for candles, to thaw auto parts, to prepare dog food, to germinate plant seeds, to make cold medicine, to heat stones for a back massage, and more! Some respondents erred more on the side of traditional. One respondent noted, “I found baking a cake in the crock pot so foreign, until I did it and now I barely use my oven for such things as cakes.”

You’ll find many slow cooker “baking” ideas on AllFreeSlowCookerRecipes.com, along with hundreds of other easy cooking ideas. We advise you to wash your slow cooker or keep a separate one in the house if you’re going to try cooking up inedible items, such as auto parts in your crock!

At AllFreeSlowCookerRecipes.com, we encourage you to get as creative as you can when using your slow cooker. We’re here to help you cook up delicious creations. We want to thank all of those folks who participated in our survey. We will use the results from this survey to improve our Web site and newsletter, The Slow Cooker Chronicle. We always welcome your feedback.

99.8% of Readers Believe Crafting Helps Sharpen Kids’ Minds

Northbrook, IL —Recently, AllFreeKidsCrafts conducted a survey to get more insight into what our fans love most about us and how we can improve. This is what they had to say:

61.5% of surveyed subscribers look for crafts that are inexpensive
37% are looking for projects for their grandkids
34.6% look for crafts that involve paint
People prefer paper crafts to any other type of craft projects

Just for fun: 39.4% of readers ate craft materials at one point in their childhood. Their reasoning: children are curious!

When asked if they could be a kid again what age they would be, the most popular answer was 10 years old. Readers prefer this age because you can complete craft projects by yourself, but you still don’t have the responsibilities or issues of being a teen or adult!

If you’re not yet a subscriber of Crafty Kid Creations, sign up today. We send out four project-packed issues every week. Fifty percent of those surveyed never miss an issue. Though many people said they love Crafty Kid Creations and AllFreeKidsCrafts.com as is, we received some helpful feedback that will make you love them even more.

CouponAudit.com recently compiled a list of the Top 100 Craft Blogs to Follow in 2013 and ranked the FaveCrafts Blog at the top.

FaveCrafts’ number one ranking did not come without a great deal of hard work and support from a large global network of crafters. In fact, the list was determined by the size and breadth of each site’s social media presence. FaveCrafts’ 85,980 Facebook fans were a huge factor in the number one ranking. Additionally, FaveCrafts’ 13,553 Twitter followers made a huge impression.

The FaveCrafts Blog routinely received about 25,000 pageviews every week and features content from FaveCrafts as well as sits such as AllFreeKidsCrafts, AllFreeSewing, AllFreeJewelryMaking and FaveQuilts. Content can include anything from trend roundups to weeklong giveaways and product promotions. Recent Survey Shows Popular Crafting Trends

Northbrook, IL —  A recent survey conducted by FaveCrafts.com revealed the interests and habits of crafters who subscribe to Quick and Crafty, FaveCrafts’s free daily email newsletter. The goal was to gain a better understanding of what inspires our online readers, what types of crafts they’re interested in, how they interact on social media, and just how much crafting really means to them.

Out of the 12,728 individuals who participated in this survey, the vast majority were females over the age of 60 years.  While many did not consider themselves to be a “professional” in the crafting industry, those who did were proud of their talents!  Of those who considered themselves professionals in the industry, about 37% admitted to crafting for profit, while about 10% said they teach crafting presently or have taught crafting in the past.

Since FaveCrafts is home to several types of crafting projects and mediums, we wanted to get a better understanding of what our readers enjoy doing and what they’re looking for when they come to our site.  About 3,000 people (23.8%) of the 12,728 surveyed said that they crochet on a daily basis.  Other popular projects included sewing (15%), knitting (11.5%), and quilting (10.5%).

We also wanted to get a better idea of the skill level of our readers.  When asked if they identify themselves as a beginning, intermediate, or advanced crafter.  About 56% of those surveyed considered themselves intermediate crafters, followed by advanced at 27.6%, and beginning at 11.2%.

Readers were also asked, “What is one craft supply you can’t live without?”.  About half the participants (46.5%) said yarn, followed by fabric at 27.7% and paper at 14.6%.  When asked what types of projects they enjoy making with their favorite craft product, an overwhelming amount of people said they enjoy crochet projects and making various crafts for friends and family.  Afghans, scarves, and hats were among the most popular choices, as were albums, cards, and clothing.

Of course, sometimes crafting can be a real pain.  We all know it can be expensive and time consuming, and our readers agree.  About 11% of participants said that the thing they hate most about crafting is not having the time to start and finish projects.  But that doesn’t stop them from trying!  A mediocre 4% said that the thing they hate most about crafting is the cost of materials…so even if they’re strapped for time, most crafters will still keep their supply well stocked with the best products they can find.

Aside from connecting with FaveCrafts through newsletters, respondents said they also enjoy interacting through a multitude of platforms including Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube. They are most active on social media in the evening and morning hours.

Survey Shows Home Cooks’ Preferences and Habits

Northbrook, IL – A December 2012 survey revealed the cooking preferences and habits of home cooks who subscribe to Quick and Easy Recipes, the free eNewsletter published by RecipeLion.com.  The goal of the survey was to better understand what readers like to cook, how they like to cook, who they cook for, and what their overall cooking experience is like. The survey was also designed to understand the reasons behind why people cook at home… and some of the answers were surprising.

When asked whether they thought cooking at home leads to healthier eating, 93% of readers responded that they believed they ate better when meals were prepared at home (versus dining out). These findings are supported by other recent studies which have shown that home cooking does, in fact, have a positive effect on overall health and longevity. A 2012 survey conducted by researchers at Cambridge University found that people who cook at home up to five times a week were 47 percent more likely to still be alive after 10 years.

Out of the 5,053 respondents to the RecipeLion survey, a majority 61.5% said that they cook at home five or more times a week and a vast majority described their cooking experience level as either intermediate or advanced. Nearly half of respondents said they typically cook for two people while 37% said that they cook for three or more people. The most preferred types of dishes to cook at home were dinner entrees (79.5%), casseroles (64%) and desserts (58%). Top ingredients to cook with included chicken, beef, pasta and vegetables.

One of the most interesting findings of the study was that 45.5% of respondents said they do not plan out their meals ahead of time. In fact, only 14.5% of respondents said that they plan their weekly menus at the start of the week. According to the study, the most important factors when considering recipes to make were the cooking time, preparation time, number of ingredients and cost of ingredients.

Other survey findings:

  • 64.4% of respondents agreed that having a photo of a finished dish makes a recipe more appealing.
  • 37% of respondents were interested in old-fashioned and vintage recipes.
  • 25% of respondents said they were interested in copycat restaurant recipes.
  • 77% of respondents were interested in seeing more recipes from Pinterest.

Recent Survey Reveals Crocheters Interests and Habits

Northbrook, IL — A recent survey conducted by AllFreeCrochet.com revealed the interests and habits of crocheters who subscribe to Hooked on Crochet, AllFreeCrochet’s free daily email newsletter. The goal was to gain a better understanding of what inspires our online readers, what (and who) motivates them to crochet, how they interact with the online crochet community, and just how much this hobby really means to them — you’ll be shocked to hear what they’re willing to give up in order to crochet!

Medical professionals always stress the importance of getting a good night’s sleep. Although that may be true, AllFreeCrochet readers disagree; the majority of our readers have sacrificed shuteye in order to keep working on a crochet project. Out of 14,486 respondents, 61.7% of respondents admit they have chosen crochet over sleep at least once. And because there clearly are just not ever enough hours in the day, our readers also revealed that they to take their projects on-the-go – and are proud of it! 93.1% of respondents say they are not embarrassed to crochet in public.

Out of the 14,486 respondents to AllFreeCrochet’s survey, the majority were female crocheters over the age of 60 who crochet daily, and have known how to crochet since they were 18 years old or younger. Not surprisingly, the main reason they crochet is not for the money; only 98 out of 14,486 people (0.7%) say they crochet because of the profit they make from selling their patterns. Instead, 48.3% say they crochet because it’s relaxing, and 42% say they crochet because they like the feeling of accomplishment when a project is completed. 4.8% like the convenience of crochet (hooks and yarn are small enough to use on-the go), and 4.2% say it’s something fun to do with friends and family.

There are obviously many different types of yarn on the market today, but the majority of AllFreeCrochet readers (70.7%) enjoy working with worsted weight yarn the most, and 90% of readers choose to buy from yarn companies such as Lion Brand, Red Heart Yarn, Bernat, etc. Seeing a project they want to make excites readers the most, and 85% of readers find most of their crochet patterns online.

Aside from connecting with AllFreeCrochet through newsletters, respondents said they also enjoy interacting through a multitude of platforms including Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube. They are most active on social media in the morning and evening hours.

Key findings of the survey include:

– Favorite Reader Projects:
54% – afghans
21% – scarves
20% – hats
5% – sweaters

– Social Media Use:
33% check social media in the evenings
32% check social media in the mornings

– Main Sources For Crochet Patterns:
86% – online
8% – books
6% – magazines

– Top Purchased Yarn Brands:
50% – Red Heart
15% – Lion Brand
9% – Caron
7% – Bernat
2% – Patons
0.3% – Premier
0.3% Berroco

Finally, the survey also asked readers what they would like to see changed in the Hooked on Crochet newsletters, both in format and in content. Here is what a few readers had to say about the AllFreeCrochet newsletter, Hooked on Crochet:

“I love your newsletter. It is very inspirational for a crocheter.”

“I am very, very appreciative for the patterns and tutorials that AllFreeCrochet makes available. I have become a much better crocheter and am now even creating my own original patterns. Thank you!”

“I enjoy finding AllFreeCrochet in my inbox and opening to find what it is new.”

“I love that the projects are so well written, and great pictures to walk me through learning how to do it. I’m about 3 years into crochet now… still loving it.”

“Keep up the good work in giving us interesting patterns!”
