Internet Advertising Revenue Continues to Skyrocket
April 19 , 2012Northbrook, IL — Internet advertising continues to be an increasingly profitable avenue, according to a study just released by the Interactive Advertising Bureau on Wednesday. Revenue reached a record $31 billion in 2011, a 22% increase from 2010. In the fourth quarter of 2011 alone, revenue totaled $9 billion, a 20% increase from that same period in 2010.
The largest portion of the ad revenue, $14.8 billion, came from search category, encompassing text-based ads that target keyword searches.
The increase in mobile advertising allows for companies to generate more relevant advertising that is better tailored to the relevancy of the search term as well as the locality of the individual, according to David Silverman, a partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers who helped conduct the study
