AllFreeCrochet and AllFreeKnitting Host Third Annual Prayer Shawl Drive

December 14 , 2017

Northbrook, IL — AllFreeCrochet and AllFreeKnitting proudly partnered with Rush University Medical Center’s Prayer Shawls at Rush initiative during the month of November for a charity drive.

“There’s more to the prayer shawl than meets the eye – besides just keeping you warm, prayer shawls provide comfort during challenging times. For a patient receiving a shawl, knowing that someone out there took the time to hand make the garment means so much. Knowing that there are others out there invested in what they’re going through, it makes a difference,” said editor Julia Wiatr.

“These gifts we receive are treasured and honored,” said Erin Bagwell, Clinical Social Worker at Rush Hospital. “We have countless stories of how meaningful they have been to our patients and families, including a couple of stories in which our patients loved them so much that their families chose to incorporate the shawl into their funeral service. Since we have been blessed to have a generous flow of shawls, we are able to expand these gifts to our hospice unit – it truly is a gift. We are so honored to continue to be chosen and are humbled every day by the beautiful creations of our talented knitters and crocheters. Thank you to all who have supported our program.”

The charity drive, in its third straight year, collected hundreds of completed knit and crochet shawls that will be shared with local hospice patients. For more information on Rush’s Prayer Shawls at Rush initiative, and to learn how you can make a difference, please check out Rush’s page here.
